Beekeeping for Beginners

This class is designed to stimulate the interest in and answer the questions of those interested in starting beekeeping as a hobby or to help pollinate their crops. It covers what is needed, where to locate beehives, where to buy them, what it costs and how to care for bees so they make honey and survive the winter. Peter Cowin is president of the Penobscot County Beekeepers Association and also writes a column for Mainely Agriculture magazine.

To enroll in enrichment classes, participants must be at least 18 years old and not enrolled in school.

Beginner Level Yoga

Yoga has been shown to have vast health benefits for people of all body types and fitness levels. If you can stretch your muscles, you can do yoga! This six week series will introduce basic yoga postures (along with modifications) and healthy alignment with some breath work and relaxation/meditation sprinkled in. We will play with linking postures together into a gentle ‘flow’ sequence that will stretch your muscles and relax your mind. Bring a yoga mat and wear clothes that allow for unrestricted movement. Some props will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own. Participants should have the ability to get up and down from the floor fairly easily, and be cleared by a medical professional if there are chronic health issues such as high blood pressure.

To enroll in enrichment classes, particpants must be at least 18 years old and not enrolled in school.

Country Burn Dance Fitness

Finally, a workout you’ll LOVE to do! If you can walk, you can do Country Burn Dance Fitness! Dance routines consist of simple, linedance inspired moves, repeated in a format that encourages movement and FUN! Move your body, work up a sweat, and get fit, all while grooving to the great country music you love! No prior dance experience required; class appropriate for all ages. Bring water and a towel, as we are going to burn up the country dance floor!

We offer gentle restorative classes that combine yoga postures, breathing, and meditation. These classes are geared toward students who wish to move at a slower pace. No Yoga experience is required. Gentle Restorative Yoga provides a beautiful way to softly relax the body up and stretch yourself out. Yoga provides the means to bring out the best in each individual. This requires an understanding of a person’s present condition, personal potential, appropriate goals and the means available. As each person is different, these will vary with each individual. No experience necessary. Please bring your own Yoga mat.
